League Starts Tonight!

Hey all, tonight marks the beginning of the 2016-2017 season, so here are a few reminders.

Weekly dues are $40/team.  If you have a sub, if you only have 3 people show up, if you have 5 people show up, none of that matters, each team pays $40/week.

Registration fee is a flat $80/team.  That covers all registration fees including unlimited use of subs for the season.  If you have 4 regular members and nobody misses a week, your team pays an $80 registration fee.  If you have 5 regular members and use 27 subs throughout the course of the season, your team pays an $80 registration fee.  Please try to get this fee paid sooner than later.  If you put in $110* (see next paragraph) tonight, you’re all set.

Lastly, remember that we passed a $10 credit for each team captain at the end of season event last season, so for tonight, captains do not have to pay their weekly dues, so technically if you put in $110 tonight you are covered.

Good luck, play well, and have fun!

Website Ready for New Season – Schedules Posted

The website is now ready for the 2016-2017 season.Check the Tuesday and Wednesday Schedule and Standings pages for all the current league info.

The Tuesday season will run from September 13th to March 28th and the Wednesday season will run from September 14th to March 22nd.

Tuesday has 12 teams and will have a 22 week season comprised of 2 rounds.
Wednesday has 8 teams and will have a 21 week season comprised of 3 rounds.

Also…an important reminder.  Instead of the usual $10/player plus $25/team registration fee, this season each team is responsible for a total of $80 registration fee which covers the team registration and  all players and subs for the entire season.  This was voted in by the membership at the end of season event last season and will greatly simplify payments.

Once the season starts, each team will have an “Owed Dues” column on the standings page which will decrement each week by the amount turned in.  For Tuesday, this will be $960 (22 weeks times $40=$880+$80=$960) and for Wednesday this will be $920 (21 weeks times $40=$840+$80=$920.)  The only thing that would cause this number to increase instead of decrease is if a team didn’t turn in the score sheet with the opposing team’s money.  This will make more sense once the season starts.

Week 20 Results

Check the Tuesday and Wednesday Schedule and Standings pages for all the current league info.

Reminder:  Next week is week 21, which means that, for Tuesday, we will be within the final 6 weeks of the league.  League rules state that no new subs can be used within the last 6 weeks of play, so if someone isn’t a part of the bullpen or hasn’t played already in the league, they are no eligible to play during the last 6 weeks.  Wednesday has a 27 week season so this begins for them next week.

Given that we are getting close to the end of the season, it’s well beyond time to double check what your team owes and get it paid up.  We had a captains meeting at the beginning of the season and put to a vote that fines will be levied at the end of the season equal to what you owe up to $50.  This means if your team owes $75 come the end of the season, $125 will come out of your payout envelope ($75 to cover what is owed and $50 for the fine.)  If your team owes $10 then $20 will come out of your pay.  Let’s avoid having to deal with fines and just get paid up before the end of the season.  If you’re not sure if your team owes money, click on your team anywhere on this website and you’ll be brought to your team page which has a breakdown of what you owe and why.

I am also still missing the following score sheets (and money):

Wednesday:
Week 9 – Cozy Inn 3 @ Cock & Bull (Cock & Bull Has Sheet)
Week 18 – 90 West 3 @ 90 West 2 (90 West 3 Has Sheet)

Congratulations go out to the following:

Table Run – Dale Kurihara (90 West 4Tuesday), Julian Levy (90 West 1Tuesday), Darrell McCullough (Brennan’s 4Tuesday)

8 Ball Break – Tom Okimoto (90 West 3Wednesday)

Honor Roll – Alessandro Dati (Cock & Bull 2Tuesday), Pepe Vasquez (Lost & FoundTuesday), Mike Waddles (Brennan’s 4Tuesday), Colin Angle (Brennan’s 4Tuesday), Tod Lofing (Brennan’s 1 – Wednesday), Angela Aquino ( – Wednesday), Dr. John Gushiken (90 West 2Wednesday)

Slow site update

Many apologies for not having the website completely ready in time for the start of the season.  I’m in the midst of running a week long event that ends Sunday.  I’ll do my best to get all the week 1 scores in on Monday.

One important thing that hasn’t been updated yet is the rules page.  It was voted in during the captains meeting that all timeouts and any other conversation during a match must be initiated by the shooter.  This means no teammate calling a timeout and no reminding the shooter to call their pocket.

End of Season Party

This coming Sunday, May 31st, the End of Season party will be held at Gabe’s:

2965 S Sepulveda Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90025

We will start around 2pm with payouts, league business, and a tournament.

If, at this point, you still owe the league money, expect it to be taken out of your payout envelope along with appropriate fines.  This includes the two teams who failed to turn in their scoresheets and money from the final night.

90 West 3 was the visiting team against JPs and did not turn in the sheet.

Cozy Inn 3 was the visiting team against Gabe’s and did not turn in the sheet.

We Are Preparing for the 2014-2015 Season

In preparation for the upcoming season, here’s some information about what has already happened and what is to come.

First, for those who weren’t at the end of season party, the league has a new President (Arnold Castellanos) and a new Vice President (Jeff Murphy)

Second, three rule changes were overwhelmingly voted in by the membership of the league.  They are as follows:

1.  A scratch on the break is now ball in hand instead of ball in the kitchen.

2.   A cue ball scratch on the 8 ball is ball in hand instead of loss of game (note this applies to cue ball scratches only.  If you pocket the 8 ball in an illegal fashion, that is still a loss of game.)

3.  We are moving to call pocket instead of slop.  Straight in shots need not be called, and if the opponent is unclear about where the shooter is aiming, it is their responsibility to ask.  Banks, kicks, and other non-straight in shots must be called.  If the opposing player or team is not paying attention, it’s their own fault.

These rules will be inserted into the league rules that come in each team’s folder, as well as the rules posted on the website here.

An email has gone out with regards to a captain’s meeting to be held September 2nd at Brennan’s at 7:30pm.  If you haven’t seen this email yet, check your email box, it was sent by Arnold.  Please respond to this email whether you can make the meeting or not.

While it is to be a captain’s meeting, all are welcomed to come, and new players should definitely attend.  After the meeting, there will be a $10 entry tournament.

—————————————–

We will also be instating a rule this season with regards to scoresheets after the match.  The way scoresheets and money are to be turned in will not change.  Sheets and money must still be turned in at Brennan’s or Speakeasy, however, there is one additional step that must be taken starting this season.  Out of the 8 people in attendance for the match, one person must take a picture of the score sheet and either email it to me or text it to me at djmichaelbasic@gmail.com or 323-304-2540.  The picture must be clear and show the entire score sheet.  This will allow me to update the website much sooner and we won’t have to wait for people who decide to go weeks without turning in their score sheets.

—————————————-

I will be updating the website for the new season.  The next post on this page will list changes as they are made.  Some of those changes will include Moving the 2013-2014 season to the archives, Updating the captain’s list, Updating the officer’s list, Updating the rules page, etc.

If anyone has questions or suggestions about the website, feel free to contact me at djmichaelbasic@gmail.com with them.

We are looking forward to another great season.  See you soon!
