At today’s meeting, a new payout scale was proposed, voted on, and passed. You can find the scale by clicking here.
The reason for this scales proposal is…for the past 8 or so years, we’ve had a very top heavy payout curve. The top 3 teams were getting 65% of the prize fund, and the rest of the teams saw very little difference in prize, so if you were in 8th place, for example, there was no incentive to strive for 7th or 6th place. This left a lot of teams not enjoying their second half of the season, and in many cases, new teams haven’t stuck around after their first season of play. The westside 8 ball league used to consistently have 16 teams on each night, and for the last few years we’ve struggled to get more than 10 on Wednesdays and more than 12 on Tuesdays. It is the hope of many that this new pay scale will give new teams, as well as weaker teams, more incentive to play out the season and keep returning, as there is benefit to placing higher, nomatter what place you find yourself in.
It is still the case that each individual win is awarded $2.50, so there is still a “curve” but the prize fund that is awarded to each team for what place they come in has been flattened out this year.
The net effect of this is, 1st place will get less money, last place will get less money, and everyone else will get a little or a lot more money than they would have last year.
